1800 1900 2000 2100 Projection: Mollweide Some observations: Ireland 1840 is a populous country in Europe, with 8 millon people, 3 million more than today India's population keeps growing but was the smallest in 1980 relative to the global population. Japan remains relatively stable until 2000, when it starts to shrink fast. Australia is almost invisible in 1800 and remains quite small, even in 2100. Africa is where the growth is in 21st century, with Nigeria projected to overtake the US by 2060. China is the most populous country until around 2020 when India overtakes it. Yet, it relative size shrinks during this entire timespan.
